  1. When I enlarged your photo, the slightly blurry edges reminded me of the shadows of leaves I saw in May, 1984, during a partial but significant eclipse of the sun here in Houston. The NY Times article got it exactly right: “As the light from the Sun passed through the leaves of trees, it projected on to the sidewalk pavement tiny wedgelike images of its own crescent silhouette.”

    I love that your photo evoked that memory. Beyond all that, the shape of the fern’s shadow looks remarkably like a Norfolk pine.
