Liz saw a scallop shell, but when I saw the bits of grass protruding from the top, I saw a butterfly. March 28, 2021 at 11:00 am Reply
Oh that’s cool, that hadn’t occurred to me. It’s always fun when people see different things. March 28, 2021 at 1:01 pm Reply
What led you to separate this picture out from the other two in a post of its own? March 28, 2021 at 11:41 am Reply
Oh, I was going to pick one or the other, and just thought the heck with it, I’ll put them both up. March 28, 2021 at 1:09 pm Reply
Thanks, Otto. A number of people have seen a butterfly, and that hadn’t popped in my head. I saw the Shell Oil company logo, which I’ve always liked. March 28, 2021 at 1:10 pm Reply
Thank you, Peter. There’s a different red one, cinnabar, that grows on oak trees, but doesn’t seem to get as big as the ones on hemlocks. March 28, 2021 at 1:12 pm Reply
I’ve seen wild mushrooms and fungus that look like they’ve been nibbled on, I’ve read that squirrel will do that. Maybe that’s why they act so squirrelly sometimes. March 28, 2021 at 2:37 pm Reply
That’s interesting … like a scallop shell!
That’s what I thought, too!
Attractively shot Robert!
Thank you, Denzil!

A fascinating captured. The fungus almost looks like a butterfly.

I wonder if any animals eat fungi. Birds? Foxes?

Great shot, Robert! 🙂
Thanks Pit!
